Their stories often began with meeting a man they thought was kind, caring and interested in their lives. One woman described him as her "prince charming." But that gave way to controlling behaviour, excessive jealousy, abuse, and efforts to isolate the women from friends, family and co workers. "A new horrifying chapter of endless psychological abuse and fear began when the women ended the relationship. What struck Zorn most were similar patterns of harassment, including incessant phone calls, letters and text messages; break ins and property damage; attempts at defamation online and in workplaces; death threats; and, in the extreme, physical and sexual assaults.
